This page I'm starting a little late. I'm keeping a builder's log of course, but this page will act as an online backup. My builders insurance policy will reimburse me $15 an hour that I can document. If I lose my plane, I'll most likely have lost my builder's log as well. This isn't going to be a very good reference web site, but will give a timeline of my progress.
Up to -> 3/2007- Built ailerons and flaps. 20 hrs
3/04/07- Built wing jig and hung wing spars. 12 hrs
3/10&11- worked on right spar-platenuts. 12 hrs
3/14-Prepped right rear spar. waiting on parts. 2 hrs
3/16- Sorted ribs for right wing. 2 hrs
3/17- Deburr, flute ribs. Finish left nose ribs. 3 hrs
3/18-Take left wing apart. Not happy with workmanship by other builder. Ordered more rivets and some #5's for some enlarged holes. Fix left ribs. Both spars ready to start w/ tie down brackets and aileron bellcranks. 5 hrs
3/20 manufactured new tie down brackets. 2 hrs
3/21-Primed tie down brackets and installed. torqued to 25" lbs. Installed bell crank brackets. Installed K-100-4's at 4 locations. 4 hrs
3/23- Installed aileron bellcranks. 2 hrs
3/24-Primed, fluted all ribs except tank and joiner rib. Both rear spars completed.Started riveting ribs to spar left side.2 hrs
3/25- Riveted main ribs to both right and left spars. Built 2nd jig and hung wings. Still need to level, wing slipped and smashed finger. Ouch. 6 hrs.
3/29- Wing leveling on jigs. 2 hrs
3/30-Finish jigging up the wings. 1.8 hrs
4/1-4/3 - Working away at match drilling wing skins. 6 hrs
4/8- Match drill bottom right wing. Cleco & attach right leading edge to wing. Match drill leading edge. Started right tank assy. 8 hrs.
4/9- Started Z brackets. Waiting on more clecoes. 2hrs
4/10- Drilled Z brackets for right side. 1.5 hrs
4/19- finished up Z brackets for the right wing.Got right tanks assembled and match drilled. 6 hrs.
4/20- Cleaned shop. Disassembled right tank and made tank attach brackets.
4/21- Started left wing. Fabricated Z brackets, match drilled4 main wing skins, assembled leading edge. Started left tank ass'y. 11 hrs.
4/22- Finished all left wing match drill and Zbrackets. Tank diassembled for final prep work. 3 hrs.
4/25- Fabbed tank attach brackets, T-405 and match drilled with T 410. Tank rib stiffners to tank skins as shown. 3 hrs
4/27- Deburred and dimpled all left tank parts. 4 hrs
4/28- Deburred left tank outer skin, match drilled tank caps and drains. 2 hrs
4/28-5/1- Deburred and dimpled both tanks. Used sealer and installed stiffeners both tanks. Prepped access cobers. Started deburring left LE and installed platenuts on joiner strip left wing. 6 hrs.
5/5- dimpled & assembeld left leading edge. C'sink's on spar for LE. 1 side prepped left lower inboard skin with covers. 4 hrs
5/6- Deburred and dimpled all left wing skins 4 hrs.
5/8- Started deburring left wing skeleton. 2 hrs
5/9-5/11- Finished deburring and dimpling left wing. Started riveting left leading edge. 4 hrs
5/12- Installed fuel cap rings and drains in fuel tank skins. Ordered flaring tool and bender. 3 hrs
5/14- Built trap door assy for left tank. 2 hrs
5/15- Start deburring right wing. Made W-423 joining strips. Primed Z brackets. 3 hrs
5/16- Riveted nut plates in w423. Deburred and dimpled right leading edge ribs and assbled right LE with clecoes. 3 hrs.
5/18- Riveted right leading edge complete. 4 hrs
5/19- Assembled left tank with pro-seal. 3hrs
5/20-5/24- Sealed and riveted left tank except for baffle plate. Fabbed anti hang up guides per print. Safe tied flop tube per Vans SB. Deburring & dimpleing right skins in spare time, lol. 12 hrs
5/28- Finished gooping rivets left tank. Installed drain and vent line. 4 hrs
5/29- Installed vent line and flop tube permanently. Riveted anit hang up bracket. 3 hrs
5/30- Deburred right wing and rivetd right leading edge. 3 hrs.
6/1- Finished dimpling right wing skeleton. 3 hrs
6/2- Assembled right tank w/pro seal. 10 hrs
6/3- Worked on new right flap., Riveted tank LE 5 hrs
6/4- gooped lower right tank rivets. Dimpled left flap skins (RW) 4 hrs
6/5- Gooped rest of rivets. 2 hrs
6/7- Fabbed and installed right tank vent line, installed fuel outlet and made anti rotation bracket. 3 hrs.
6/9-6/11- Finished up new left flap. 8 hrs
6/11- Start tank closure prep. 2 hrs
6/16- Sealed up left tank rear baffle. Made small plate to cover tooling hole in rib, both tanks. 5 hrs.
6/16-6/21- Riveted rear baffles in both tanks 5 hrs
6/22- Installed access covers and senders with pro-seal. Ya! 3 hrs
6/23- Found clogged vent line in right tank.Fixed, started working on aileron pushrods. 4 hrs
6/25- started making cradle to hold the wings during construction of the rest of the plane. 3 hrs.
6/26- Attached right tank to wing. 1 hr
6/27- Got ballons to test for leaks. Found one in the left tank. Got 12" offset back rivet tool. 2 hrs
7/1-7/4- Finished wing cradle, prepped wings for riveting. 2 hrs
7/5- my good friend Dennis Cady came by to help with riveting the wing skins.Riveted all 4 top skins on, removed from jig and placed in cradle. 8 hrs
7/6- Riveted aileron brackets on, primed and prepped w-721' & w-724's. 6 hrs.
7/7-Riveted w-721 & w-724's, organized aileron attach hardware. Installed ailerons and pushrods. 6 hrs
7/8 & 9- Worked on landing light in right wing. 2 hrs
7/10- Finished right landing light. Worked on pitot line. 3 hrs
7/11- Worked on wing conduit install. 2 hrs
7/12 - Finished up wing conduit, and pitot installation, wing landing lights. 3 hrs
7/14- Some idiot put the pitot line in the wrong wing!!
7/15 - 20- Worked on landing light in left wing. Fuse kit due to arrive shortly!! 2 hrs
7/21- Inventory fuse kit complete.Continue landing lights. 8 hrs
7/24&25- Finish up landing light. Last install of lens, broke lens.
7/27- Riveted right bottom inboard skin. 6 hrs
7/28- Finished bottom skins on right wing. 4 hrs.
7/30- Attached right flap. 3 hrs
8/1- Installed pitot ling in left wing :) 2 hrs
8/2- Finished conduit routing in right wing. Ran 5 strings (wire pulls) in each conduit. 3 hrs
8/4-Removed left tank, attached sender wire, remounted tank. 2.5 hrs
8/5- Riveted both left lower skins. 8 hrs
8/6- Drilled flap attach holes. 1.5 hrs.
Start fuselage!
8/8 Sorted firewall parts. Made/fabricated all nessacary parts, clecoed together. 6 hrs.
8/14-16- Match drill. dimple & deburr firewall. 3 hrs.
8/20- Work is keeping me too busy. Not much doe at home. Good money tho....
8/21- Worked on F-704 Bulk head match drilled all F704, A,B,C,&D. 4 hrs
8/22- Riveted F-704 nutplates, fabrcated stiffners. 3hrs.
9/1-9/5- Finished F-704 & F705 bulkheads. 8 hrs.
9/5-9/20- Finished all the bulkheads. Bent longerons and cut "J" channels. Waiting on Van's to ship 8', kit only had 6'. 20 hrs.
9/21- Assembled aft fuselage. Drilled J bars. 6 hrs.
9/25-9/29- Drilled remaing holes in aft fuse. 3 hrs
10/2- Finished riveting aft fuse. 6 hrs
10/3- Fluted seat ribs, made spacers, cut and deburred all seat ribs. 5 hrs.
10/4- Installed nut plates in seat ribs
10/5- Assembled center section, match drilled F-704, F705, all seat ribs & baggage area ribs. 6hrs
10/7- lots of deburring. 3.5 hrs
10/9- Still deburring, and priming. 2 hrs
10/10- Dimpling. 3 hrs
10/15- Started riveting center section. 3 hrs.
10/16- More riveting- Need help! 3 hrs
10/18- Eric manned the rivet gun, me on the bucking bar. Finished riveting center section together. 3 hrs
10/19- Cleco and match drill seat and baggeage floors. 3 hrs.
10/20 thru 30-Build all the various foward fuselage parts. 15 hrs.
